      A-one+, on behalf of Highways England will be carrying out resurfacing to address carriageway deterioration of the A27 extending from just west of Polegate Interchange to New Barn Farm. They will also be carrying out geotechnical ground investigation to determine ground conditions for prosed footway improvements.

      In order to carry out these works as efficiently and as safely as possible, work will be carried out under full overnight closures of the A27 between The Street, Wilmington and just prior to Brown Jack Avenue at Polegate Interchange. The works be carried from Sunday 18 August 2019 to Wednesday 21 August 2019 between the hours of 8pm to 6am. The works are weather dependent.


      Series of full closures on main carriageway

      Dates and timings

      Full closures east and west bound of the A27 between the junction with The Street, Wilmington and just prior to Brown Jack Avenue, Polegate

      Sunday 18 August 2019 to Wednesday 21 August 2019 (4 shifts)

      8pm to 6am


      Diversions: Clearly signed diversions will be in place during all closures utilising local routes, suitable for all types of vehicles when full closures of the carriageway are in place.

      West bound Diversion: Vehicles traveling through Polegate on the A2270 or A27 will be diverted north at Polegate Interchange to Cophall Roundabout, straight ahead to join the A22. Follow the A22 for approximately 19km, to Little Horsted. At the roundabout take the 1st left onto the A26 to head south through the Cuilfail Tunnel to re-join the A27 at Southerham Roundabout to continue their journey west bound or turn in an easterly direction to the junction with Alfriston Road where the diversion ends. Local access only will be available beyond this point to the junction with The Street, Wilmington.

      East bound Diversion: Vehicles travelling east on the A27 towards Polegate will be diverted off the A27 at Southerham Roundabout onto the A26 heading north to complete the above diversion in reverse.

      Emergency vehicles will be provided with access through the works at all times.

      Residents and businesses with access only from the A27 will be provided with escorted access, though there may be a short wait while the works area is made safe.
